 Jennifer Bird, ISA-AM brings a lifetime of exposure to antiques and art, continuing in the family tradition of Modernism Gallery, consultant for Modernsim.com and as a partner of Estate Services Appraisals. She brings a background in the legal field as she worked for over ten years as a legal assistant. Employment at Books and Books, an independent bookstore in Coral Gables, Florida, and running "Gables, Etc." an online eBay store, gave her the experience in research and valuation of rare and antiquarian books. Opportunities to travel to Napa and Sonoma, California, France and Spain, earned the ability to learn about wine valuation. Jennie has been educated in Appraisal Studies by the International Society of Appraisers (ISA) and the Appraisers Association of America (AAA). She is an Accredited Member (ISA-AM) of the International Society of Appraisers and has served on the board of the South Florida Chapter of ISA since 2010.  She is also a member of the Ormond Beach Chamber of Commerce and serves as chairperson of her networking group.


Iza Emmett: As a Gallery owner since 1979, Iza has dealt with both ends of the appraisal world:  As a gallerist having to deal with valuation and condition of the items she was buying and selling and working with Ric during all his years as appraiser, attending ISA Conferences and organizing talks and meetings for the local ISA chapter. She completed the International Society of Appraisers Core Course in 2015 and requalification in 2022.  She is a USPAP (Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice) compliant appraiser until 2023.  She continues with her work as the founder of MODERNISM.COM and has had speaking engagements in Florida, New York and California including the Miami International Book Fair and the Palm Springs Modernism Show about Art Deco in general and American Art Deco in particular to promote Ric's book, American Art Deco Furniture.  

 

 

 


appraisals miami coral gables ric emmetRic Emmett (1941 - 2015) was the founder of Estate Services Appraisals in 1979.  He had the happy combination of 30 years’ of buying and selling 20th Century fine and decorative art and 29 years’ experience as an, accredited Appraiser of Personal Property for Insurance, Estate & Probate, Charitable Donations, Equitable Property Dissolution, re-sale and liquidation purposes.

Emmett had been a gallery owner since 1978 and an appraiser of personal property, fine arts and antiques since 1979. He was the owner of Modernism Gallery in Coral Gables since 1986. Educated at the University of Florida and the University of Richmond, Emmett had been an Accredited Member of the International Society of Appraisers (ISA) since 1992. 

He twice served as President of the South Florida Chapter of ISA and in 2004-2005 was elected to the Board of Directors of the International Society of Appraisers and lectured nationally on art and antiques, author of the book American Art Deco Furniture now recognized as the comprehensive "bible" on the subject, he also was co-author of two books on antiques, published numerous articles on art and antiques, curated a museum show and was lead appraiser on WSVN-TV Channel 7’s “Trash or Treasure” series in Miami, Florida.

He leaves a legacy of honesty, integrity and knowledge.  We carry on with his work!

On site, while completing our field work,  we carefully examine all property to identify it, photograph an measure it, write a description and note its condition and any other relevant information.

This is where the client can help by providing receipts or any other pertinent information about the items to be appraised.

Value conclusions are based on comparable sales analysis for each item, including identifying all the marks and labels, the artist or creators or manufacturers, verifying all the dates and locations of comparable items and investigating the various markets. We consult with other experts if necessary.

The client is provided with a printed copy and an electronic file of the completed appraisal including the Appraiser’s Qualifications and a cover document detailing the process, definitions, market and total valuation.  Most appraisals are presented as one item per sheet with identification, description, photograph and value.  Arrangements can be made for more printed copies and for specialty bindings.
